UWP is growing – welcome our new faces

The Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership (UWP) welcomed two new board members in February, and a River Corps member to serve with our Colorado River Watch team in March. Our little nonprofit is expanding to increase our capacity to monitor and analyze watershed conditions, restore and conserve riparian areas and water sources, and create awareness and stewardship of the Upper Uncompahgre River Watershed. We are still searching for one to three more board members, especially people with legal, agricultural, and nonprofit expertise and experience. Please contact tanya@uncompahgrewatershed.org to discuss your interest.

UWP Board Member Angela Todd
Angela first came to the San Juan Mountains for work in 2017 and she was part of the Gold King Mine cleanup for three years.  Prior to living in Ouray County, Angela completed degrees at Cornell University in New York and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She has lived and worked all over the United States but has found her forever home in the Uncompahgre River Watershed.  Read more…

Briana Greer is UWP’s new board secretary. Briana’s background as both a mining environmental geochemist and recreationalist led her to the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership. When she is not working to reduce environmental impact, she is tending her Montrose garden, chickens, and bees, floating on rivers, skiing, or on some other adventure. Read more…

UWP Board Member Briana Greer
Virginia Weiskopf
Virginia Weiskopf is UWP’s new hydrologist/hydrographer through the Colorado River Corps program this month. She will be assisting UWP’s Colorado River Watch volunteers with collecting and reporting on streamflow data, as well as supporting our watershed awareness efforts. She is a passionate advocate for the environment and protecting Colorado’s watersheds. She grew up in Telluride, and graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in environmental studies and minors in political science and atmospheric and oceanic studies. She spent the previous two years doing meaningful work in the outdoors such as volunteering on organic farms in Maui, and teaching marine science to kids in Connecticut and New York on a sailboat on the Long Island Sound. In her spare time, you’ll find her out in the mountains on walks or skiing, spending time with her cat, frequenting Cora Fitness, or reading a novel.

UWP’s other contracted staff include Executive Director Tanya Ishikawa, Administrative & Fundraising Assistant Joanna Weaver, Technical Coordinator Ashley Bembenek, Technical Assistant Elin Binck, and scientist Jake Kurzweil of Mountain Studies Institute.
