Volunteering at Rollans Park is fun!

Thirteen hardworking individuals ended up at UWP’s park cleanup and trail maintenance morning on June 13 at Rollans Park in Ridgway. Some had to come late or leave early, and a couple were recruited at the last minute, but everyone made a difference.

On behalf of the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership (UWP), we would like to express our appreciation of their time and efforts on that beautiful morning. UWP board and staff members and River Watch volunteers joined, as well as members of the Ouray County Tubing Alliance and residents who care about the Uncompahgre River and local parks. Ridgway Mayor John Clark not only worked hard but he arrived with a much needed second wheelbarrow! We appreciate the Town of Ridgway’s support of UWP, this important riverside park and riparian areas.

We picked up litter, trimmed trees and bushes, pulled some tough weeds out of the trail, and spread a large pile of gravel on the trail. We also enjoyed breakfast burritos from The Market at Ridgway (part of its donation for this year’s Ridgway RiverFest), and some fun conversation, catching up about all of our fun summer plans and UWP’s projects.

If you didn’t make it to the park volunteer morning this year, please look out for our announcements about next June’s event!

Also, if you love recreating on Ridgway’s river trails and the Uncompahgre River, please fill out the Recreation and Our River survey to help us bring new resources to preserving and improving local river recreation infrastructure.
