Activities

The Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership has many ongoing projects with annual activities that make progress toward accomplishing our mission and goals. The following are current projects.

  • Mine Site Remediation Projects that keep water away from tailings and metals-contaminated areas and restoring natural vegetation
  • River Watch: water monitoring at more than 10 sites around the watershed, to provide valuable data to scientists and state and federal agencies
  • Riparian Area Restoration: annual events that remove litter and enhance the environment such as planting trees and addressing weed issues, as well as specific projects to reduce erosion and sediment in water, and other related activities
  • Water Science and Local Hydrology Education in local schools and at events like the Ridgway RiverFest and San Juan Mining & Reclamation Conference
  • Information Sharing and Scientific Guidance at the meetings of various community groups and government agencies and through publications like the Uncompahgre Watershed Plan, Ouray County Watershed Guide, and Uncompahgre Watershed Education Banners
  • Sustainable Recreation planning and outreach through participation on the Ouray County Regional Recreation & Conservation Alliance, and collaboration with stakeholders to develop projects that foster a strong stewardship ethic among river users and address safety and access issues
