The Uncompahgre River is a foundational asset in Ouray County, providing economic, ecological, and recreational benefits to the community. This vital waterway supports a wide range of outdoor opportunities including fly fishing, kayaking, tubing, and more. Beyond the recreational benefits, the river sustains critical riparian ecosystems and provides essential agricultural irrigation.
The Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership and the Recreation Allies of the Uncompahgre River are rolling out a new project, offering you a direct way to champion this critical river ecosystem. Recreation and Our River: A Community Conversation is designed to quantify the impact river recreation has not only on the economy, but for the quality of life of its users. Throughout June and July, we will be engaging with locals and visitors to collect data on how you engage with the river, ease of access to your favorite spots, and what improvements and/or additions would you like to see.
The survey only takes less than 10 minutes and comes with a 10% off coupon from Taco Del Gnar at the end! Share with your other Uncompahgre allies and encourage them to be the voice of the river – this is your chance to help guide the future of this special asset.
Thank you to our funders, the Western Colorado Community Foundation and the Town of Ridgway, for supporting this project.

Please join us on July 14 to talk about Recreation and Our River
The Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership and Recreation Allies of the Uncompahgre River will be hosting a community meeting at Pa-Co-Chu-Puk at the Ridgway State Park from 6:30 to 8 p.m. We will hear from local river advocates and then break out into discussion groups to drill down on the needs and priorities of the river and its users.
You’re invited to participate in this roundtable discussion on the state of the river and what additions and/or improvements you feel would elevate it’s value for local and visiting users. Please RSVP so we can plan for the number of participants. This is a free event, with light refreshments.
