Walk on Water: For each thing we lose, we gain another…

When a skiing accident left Greg Mallory paralyzed from the waist down, he turned to kayaking to help him escape his wheelchair. Now he’s an accomplished Class V whitewater paddler who finds strength, challenge and meaning on the river. This is his story.

Cascada: Tangled vines. Endless rain. Dodgy hotel rooms. Mud. Biting flies. Aggressive viruses…Perfection.

Is this a vacation? Erik Boomer, Tyler Bradt, Galen Volckhausen, Tim Kemple, Anson Fogel, Blake Hendrix and Skip Armstrong hunt the remote Mexican jungle for the perfect waterfall…and the perfect shot. Paddler and cinematographer alike explore a world beyond the expected.

Of Souls + Water:

5 moving stories, 5 characters that connect us to the human story and to the larger world around us.

        • The Nomad
        • The Mother
        • The Shapeshifter
        • The Warrior
        • The Elder

This is a new kind of series, combining strong characters with ephemeral digital art and produced imagery.
Directed by Skip Armstrong
Produced by Anson Fogel

The Remains of a River:

This visually stunning documentary follows two young men on a 1,700-mile hiking and paddling journey on the Colorado River, from Wyoming to Mexico…. This is more than merely a travelogue and celebration of nature as industrial buildings, large homes, dams, irrigation canals, reservoirs, and power lines intrude along the riverbanks, wetlands, and canyons.

San Juan Mountains Wildflower Guided Tour
Jul 25 @ 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

We apologize but the tour has no more openings. It is full for this weekend!

Are you aware that many plants have been historically used for medicinal, cultural, or nutritional purposes? Do you recognize the relationship between native plants and animals? Do you have questions about specific plants found in the San Juan Mountains?

Walk among the native plants of the subalpine vegetation zone with guide Mary Menz. Mary will identify wildflowers, share historical uses of native plants, and talk about the role native plants play in the ecosystem—including areas with acid mine runoff.

Please bring your lunch and water bottle. We’ll bring some cookies!

Appropriate footwear, clothing layers, rain gear, and sun screen are suggested. Feel free to bring cameras and notebooks.

A maximum of 20 participants will carpool from a site to be determined mid-July, based on best flower viewing potential. This is a high elevation walk, but the distance will be less than two miles.

Mary Menz is co-author of Common Wildflowers of the San Juan Mountains. She is also managing editor of Aquilegia, the quarterly publication of the Colorado Native Plant Society. Mary is a Colorado Native Plant Master® and teaches the course on the Western Slope for Colorado State University Extension. She lives in Ridgway with her husband of 30+ years.

Mary’s book will be available at the walk. All profits from books sold that day will be donated to UWP. A donation fo $30 per person ($15 per child) is requested to support UWP’s activities. Mary is generously donating her time for this event.

Reservations Required: FULLY BOOKED!
