Call for Volunteers!

Volunteers are needed to help clean up Rollans Park in Ridgway for the Adopt-a-Park Program on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. UWP has adopted this important park that protects and provides access to the Uncompahgre River. We make an annual effort to pick up litter and branches, and do other maintenance around the park.

Who can come: everyone of all ages (as long as parents accompany children)

What to bring: work gloves, rakes and clippers (we have extras if needed); appropriate clothing to keep you comfy and happy while you work on the riverbanks and in the park (even in the rain if weather turns wet); sunscreen, sunglasses, friends, kids, but please leave your furry friends at home

What we’ll bring: snacks and drinking water

Register: Please sign up below so we can keep track of volunteer numbers!

2023 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson
Jun 22 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Sorry! CANCELLED DUE TO E.COLI ISSUE AT SWIM BEACH

UWP is collaborating with Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) to host one of the hundreds of sites across America and the globe to hold the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ on June 22. Research shows drowning has become the leading cause of unintended death for children ages 1-4, ahead of car accidents, birth defects and cancer. In recent years, drowning deaths at Colorado lakes and rivers have also increased.

The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL) encourages participation in swimming lesson programs because swimming lessons save lives. UWP and CPW want to share that message and tips on safe water recreation including the importance of wearing PFDs (personal flotation devices). WLSL began in 2010, and is presented by the World Waterpark Association with support from American Red Cross (ARC), and many other national organizations.

For the first time in Ouray County, Ridgway State Park will hold the lesson at the Swim Beach at Dutch Charlie and it will be taught by a lifeguard from Ouray Hot Springs Pool. We invite the whole community to come and participate to raise awareness about swimming safety and spend a fun afternoon at Ridgway Reservoir. All ages are welcome as the main activity is a swimming lesson that will be valuable for young and old.
