2024 Ridgway River Corridor Field Trip

$20 per person or free for each adult bringing a youth

Guided by UWP Technical Coordinator Ashley Bembenek and Ridgway Town Manager Preston Neill.

This is a biking tour with stops along the Uncompahgre River and walks at sites. $20 per adult or free for each adult who brings a youth (9 to 19 years old). Tour group limit of 16 people. Meeting spot in Ridgway to be shared in advance of trip.

The Uncompahgre River corridor is a critical wildlife habitat and water resource that traverses Ridgway from south to north. While development, climate, seasonal changes, and other human and natural causes impact the riparian areas and watershed health, UWP and the town are considering ways to protect and restore balance.

UWP Technical Coordinator Ashley Bembenek

 

Ashley Bembenek is the principal scientist and owner of Alpine Environmental Consultants, a firm specializing in watershed planning. She has 13 years of professional experience, with most of her work in western Colorado helping organizations understand water quality and prioritize projects to improve water quality and watershed health.

 

 

Preston Neill has been Ridgway town manager since January 2020. In addition to overseeing the administration of the town and implementation of goals and objectives according to policies determined by the Town Council, his job includes planning related to water projects and resources. He is leading the town’s efforts to become more waterwise.

 

What to wear: Clothing layers (temperatures will vary depending on weather, shade, time of day, elevation, etc.), hat and/or sunglasses, closed-toe shoes appropriate for bike riding, and sunscreen.

What to bring: Bike, bike helmet, unscreen, full water bottle, snack, camera or phone camera, and your curiosity!
