A career writer since 1986, Mary is the author of Common Wildflowers of the San Juan Mountains (2019). She earned Colorado Native Plant Master® certification in 2014 and is on the teaching team for CSU Extension’s Western Slope NPM courses.
She loves when she can combine her passions of flora, writing and teaching. She is a member of the Ouray County Weed Board and is a volunteer at the Ute Indian Museum in Montrose as part of the team renovating its native plant garden.
Prior to moving to Ridgway on 2016, Mary developed and presented outdoor education programs for elementary school students. She was education specialist and manager of the Teller-Park Conservation District, where she also managed its noxious weed program.
Mary has a special interest in riparian habitat and how it sustains local fauna such as migrating bird populations. She hopes to put her interest in soil and water conservation and outreach education to work for the UWP board.
Colorado residents since 2008, Mary and her husband spend much of their time enjoying the southwest corner of Colorado by hiking, camping, fishing, and exploring.
